REAL CLASS A FIRE RATED ROOF
This demo will shed much light on the mystery behind fire codes. Many of these roofing system assemblies "burn approaching the BTUs of gasoline"  yet  still have a "Class A" fire rating. Having a "Class A" fire rating is crucial to selling to municipalities, hospitals and schools This school in Framingham, MA learned the hard way about fake fire ratings.

Why would anyone install a roofing system assembly that "burns approaching the BTUs of gasoline" on a school or hospital? On this school the roofing system is the accelerant!   The same with this warehouse in Andover England.

How did these thin rubber membrane roofing system assemblies get their "Class A" fire ratings? Simple. They cheated. With their millions, they purchased an accredited testing agency, replaced the real  engineers with imposters and faked the tests. With their fake engineers in place, a roofing system assembly that burns with the BTUs of gasoline now has a "Class A" fire rating and can now be installed on schools.   You can't make this stuff up!

Fires that develop on the surface of a roofing system may start from many sources, but the most common is adjoining area fires that release burning embers onto neighboring roofing systems. 

Other causes include
Fireworks not fully extinguished before impacting on a roof's surface.
A lit cigarette butt being carelessly discarded by at workmen into a pile of leaves on the roof.
A cigarette that's thrown out an adjoining window or door by a building's occupants.
Fires in roof top equipment that spread to the roofing membrane.
Transfer of thermal radiation from adjoining fires, etc..
Because of these and other dangers, tests are used to classify a roofing assembly's exterior fire resistance.
